Marilyn GambrellMarilyn Gambrell is a parole officer turned teacher who started the program No More Victims at the M.B. Smiley High School in Houston, Texas. The program was developed to assist children with incarcerated parents, hoping to prevent them from following in their parent’s footsteps. Since the program’s start in 1993, hundreds of children have graduated and turned their lives around under her tenure. Gambrell is also the author of a series of books entitled Cherish the Child Within, a curriculum used by educators, professionals, and social workers, and has recently completed a series of coloring books entitled My Feelings Are Real. She was played by Jami Gertz in the Lifetime movie Fighting the Odds: The Marilyn Gambrell Story.​ Read more of Marilyn’s Story HERE…

Beatrice MayesBeatrice Mayes, The school’s namesake, Beatrice Mayes has served as Principal since the school’s inception. As the oldest African American Charter School in the State of Texas, Ms. Mayes’ ability to demand and love all at the same time is priceless.  She’s driven and truly believes every child can learn if teachers teach and parents parent but here must be effective and consistent communication. Her dedication to excellence has been recognized with dozens of honors and awards.  Beatrice Mayes is the current National President of the National Women of Achievement, an organization founded to improve the quality of life for ladies, youth and the community as well as encourage youth to strive for high morals and scholastic standards. Read more of Beatrice’s story  HERE & HERE…

Marie FlickingerMarie Flickinger, Owner of South Belt Leader, a leading newspaper in the Houston area continues to #SHINE doing what she loves, connecting residents and keeping them informed.  What once was an idea that she and Bobbie Griffin, a then too stay at home housewife in 1976 because their sons played football together, has now evolved into the largest readership of any national community newspaper within the United States of America.  Marie continues with sharing stories that the community wants to hear and needs to know!  But wait, she doesn’t quick!  She’s a voice of the San Jacinto Community College System and Board of Trustee member.  Marie’s dedication to job training, education, develop of skills and workforce initiatives is ongoing.  Just ask the community.  Her drive to see this region of Houston thrive is more than just on print.  It’s who she is!  ​Read more of Marie’s story HERE…

Lisa AlexanderLisa N. Alexander, why do so many women struggle with self-acceptance? Why do they downplay their gifts, their intelligence, and their callings? Chonya JohnsonChonya D. Johnson is America’s 5 Minute Advocate, Government Affairs consultant. She has trained thousands of citizens advocates from all over the United States to effectively influence Congress, state, and local governments. She is a former Legislative staffer, who worked for over a decade in the United States Congress.  While working in Congress she gained valuable, first-hand experiences of the intricacies of government practices and the concerns of advocates, constituents and businesses. Chonya develops interactive advocacy training seminars for citizens and organizations to prepare them to effectively advocate for their issues.  Chonya is a fighter and champion for ordinary citizens​Read more of Chonya’s story HERE…

Thelma ScottThelma Scott founded the Barbara Jordan Endeavors Corporation (BJEC) in December 2000.  As an undergraduate student, Thelma came to grips with her own hidden disabilities and her personal challenges of living in a world that lacks compassion and understanding for people who are different with unique abilities.  Mrs. Scott survived breast cancer, spinal injury, memory loss and other illnesses after chemotherapy.  But she continued her college education.  Through her own personal journey to triumph and willingness to beat the odds after becoming a Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) client, she was inspired to advocate for People with Disabilities. Verna CaddieVerna Caddie, founded of Divine Creations Debutante in 2006 to empower girls so they would know they can be the best at all they strive to do or become.  Verna accomplishes this through teaching them the “Art of Etiquette.”  Etiquette is more than manners but a mindset to present a certain way in life, school, play and business. Verna often reminds and demonstrates to the young ladies and girls opportunities that go beyond their reach not because of their name but because of grace extended to Verna, she shares with others.  Verna shares, our girls are precious and a gift to the world so lets celebrate them.   Read more of Verna’s story HERE…

Maya Nicole WhiteMaya Nicole White, a gentle giant our SuperGirl.  Maya’s heart desire is to see her generation live and live well.  She’s an Online Radio Host & Advocate for Teen Health and soon, published Author.  Maya shares … “I walk the path of my dream, the Lord on my right, my destiny is clear,”  Motivation is what she brings to the room.  As a first college student, we see Maya making great steps in sharing, living and presenting the life of SuperGirl.  Stay tuned… Her story is just beginning.

Angie HeimanAngie Heiman, founder of Celebrate Life LLC.  Angie’s desire is to help woman pursue their purpose with passion.  For years she was a magnet for woman seeking encouraging words and a gentle nudge.  As an Author and Speaker, Angie specializes in life coaching, shares through speaking engagements, facilitates master mind groups and one to one as well as group coaching,  targeting business women to discover their unlimited potential.
