Welfare or Well Fair services?
“We engage partners and forge strategic alliances to educate, equip and empower individuals and families in their pursuit of economic independence.”

That’s why when you hear, Dr. Jonita “Dr. J” Wallace Reynolds, CEO of Gulf Coast Community Services Association talk about serving people, we’re sure it’s not about “welfare” services but the “well fair” for all people providing quality social services for those in need.
For 50 years since the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act authorized the establishment of Community Action Agencies to combat poverty related conditions, they’ve been serving Houston making great differences in the lives of people. In 1964, the Houston Action for Youth organization began operation and the following year the Houston-Harris County Economic Opportunity Organization was formed. In 1967, these two organizations were merged to become the Harris County Community Action Association, predecessor of today’s Gulf Coast Community Services Association, Inc. (GCCSA).
During its rich 50-year history, Gulf Coast Community Services Association, Inc. (GCCSA) has administered hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding, serving over half a million under-served individuals in Harris County. As a result, GCCSA has established itself as one of the most experienced community service providers in the gulf coast region and the largest Community Action Agency in the state of Texas.  To learn more about GCCSA, click here

2017-superlady-hou-cal-honorees-bridget-thomas
Strategically located in the most disadvantaged section of Houston, Texas, the Greater Third Ward.  The FORGE is a Christ-centered Community Center that works with the whole family in a holistic way.  Their programs provide platforms to build relationships to encourage, challenge, teach, inspire, celebrate and grow the families they serve.  The common thread running through all of their programs is the Law of Christ – “to love they neighbor as thyself.”  So be it after school, athletics, parent enrichment or mentoring, they work to ensure child and parent alike know they are loved by God and loved and supported by The FORGE.

As the Education Director, SUPERLady Bridget Thomas finds herself daily seeking wisdom how to continue the legacy strong while making an impact for generations to come.
Every child.  Every parent.  Every partner.  Every neighbor. Each of them matter and makes the work of The FORGE meaningful so they carryout their mission to holistically equip families to carry out their God-given talent well!
